There are often many campaigns for knitters to focus their skills but I wanted to highlight one in particular at this time.

phop

Phop

MSF or Medicins Sans Frontiers are giving free knitting patterns away with the idea that

”P/hop stands for pennies per hour of pleasure. As you are knitting your free pattern, ask yourself how many hours of pleasure it gave you. How many new techniques did you learn, for free? If you knitted from stash, how much did you save by not buying new yarn? What would all that be worth? What is the p/hop rating for what you just knitted? 10p an hour? 25p an hour?” (from the website!)  You can also find more regular postings, patterns and ideas on the blog.

The aim was to raise £4,000 and the project has raised 90% of that target so far!  If you’re in London or near there then a lovely lady known as ‘rooknits’ will be sewing together a phop blanket on the Plinth (15th August 9-10am)!  This blanket is due to be auctioned at the iknit London Weekend (11-12th September).

If you’re in any doubt about why this is a good cause to donate too please watch THIS.

Although I have mostly been posting about ministry things I do actually still knit a fair amount. It’s very therapeutic- often prayer time for me. It helps me to be still and I have a few projects that are cast on for particular people I am praying for- to guide my prayers. This cardigan, better known as the conference cardigan was begun on the Lichfield diocesan clergy conference this year. It was a wonderful time for me- mostly because of the sessions themselves. I felt enthused on so many levels not least to begin to love myself and my body more. To care for myself and to be confident about being a woman in my priestly ministry.

The cardigan is very shapely and fitted- it’s the beginning of being proud of me a little. The beginning of working on something I should have worked on sooner perhaps. So watch this space I may blog a little more knitting in future!

Though I find I have less time to do it these days!  I’d love to knit a 3peaked hat for each of the men doing the 3 peakes walk later this year (local village group going for charity) but I fear I’d not manage it in time!

I have however, since arriving finished a pair of lace mittens (given to Ruth) got about 60% of a scarf done, a hat for Mark, a hat for mum and one of 2 mittens for mum! I am eager to get some more major projects done but I really don’t have the ability to concentrate that hard when I finally do get breaks!

For now I’ll promise pictures and I’ll go and try finish that pair of mittens!

Here are those pictures!

I have just ventured into the world of knitting cables- and I love it!! Definately more projects to come this way. Here is what I have done so far-

Tudora neck warmer from knitty.com

Fetching mitts from the archives at Knitty.com

My only comment about these mitts would be to say that I am not impressed with the quality of the wool I used on these (Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran) and would probably substitute it with a better quality aran next time.

Debbie Bliss Tank from Simply Baby

This was nice wool btw (Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino).

I haven’t blogged for a while so I am going to do a catch up of a few posts in one day.
Made for Elias’ Christmas Pressie.
More Tees… I love Bondaweb and stitch and tear ;)
My Favourtie applique Tee yet- Jude loves it!
More of the Christmas Pjamas.
yes it is a dishcloth- have done a few of these for pressies as they are a fast knit and a good way to use up left over balls of cotton. My MIL however cannot accept it as a dishcloth and is turning it into a bag for pens…at least she will use it!
Monkey socks for me.
Toe up socks for Mark!
Need to fit a zip onto this Cardy knit fast with Chunky wool for Jude!

This was as the pattern says an ‘easy peasy bag!’.

We do our best to be as green as possible in our household. So we try to avoid plastic bags and when we can we recycle. I have lots of string bags and cloth bags etc but when I came accross this pattern I had to adapt it for a funky mini corner shop string bag.

again this is a gift…

I am also planning on knitting a bag using recycled supermarket bags!

I have looked at this pattern on knitty a few times but never really go it. However having seen the many pics of people’s completed projects on ravelry I decided to give it a go.

The mini is a gift (finished).. the maxi well I dunno yet! They are both knitting from 100% pure merino hand dyed.

It is a great pattern- perfect imo.

Bibs my way :) This is inspired by the bib o love pattern.

Basically if you figure out the dimensions you require for a bib and look at your wool guidelines (either swatch or knowing wether you knit loose or tight) you can knit bibs in any yarn. Cottons and easy wash yarns obviously are more practical.

here is what I did-:

I used an aran/dk weight wool and 4mm needles.

Cast on 30 st (or about 6-7 inches worth).

Knit all rows for 8-9 inches.

ONE STRAP- cast all 23 st until you have 7 st (or the equivalent of 1.5-2inches of work left). Knit all rows for 8 inches. Next row (button hole) K3, YO, K2tog, K2. Knit 2 more rows and then cast off. Sew button at top corner of panel opposite strap. You can put more than one button hole in if you want adjustability.

TWO STRAP- knit 7 st, cast off the next 16st and knit the last 7 st. Work on these last 7st. knit for 4 inches and cast off. Rejoin yarn to the remaining 7 st and knit for 3.5 inches. Next row (button hole) K3, YO, K2tog, K2. Knit 2 more rows and then cast off. Sew button at top of other strap.

Sew in all ends and decorate the panel of your bib in an exciting way! See here for more ideas.

inspired by the bib 0 love pattern… but just made up as I went along!

I can see a lot of these on my horizon as they make funky baby gifts!!
